The United Nations Academic Impact (UNAI) is a UN global initiative that seeks to align institutions of higher learning with the United Nations in actively supporting ten universally accepted principles in the areas of human rights, literacy, sustainability and conflict resolution. The University of Calcutta has been a founding partner of the UNAI initiative and Institute of Foreign Policy Studies (IFPS), University of Calcutta is its principal organ in this respect. This anthology of essays came out of a UNAI seminar organized by the IFPS engaging with the various dimensions of the phenomenon of globalization and its impact, both within national boundaries and across these.

Shantanu Chakrabarti & Kingshuk Chatterjee Dr. Shantanu Chakrabarti is currently an Associate Professor in the Department of History, University of Calcutta. He is also the Convenor, Academic Committee, in the Institute of Foreign Policy Studies, University of Calcutta. He was formerly a Research Fellow at the Institute for Defence Studies and Analyses (IDSA), New Delhi. His recent publications include: Privatisation of Security in the Post-Cold War Period: An Overview of its Nature and Implications, IDSA Monograph Series No.2, (New Delhi: Institute for Defence Studies and Analyses (IDSA) & Magnum, 2009; Cooperation in South Asia: the Indian Perspective (Kolkata: KP Bagchi, 2008); (Jointly edited with S. Chakraborty & K. Chatterjee) The Politics of Sport in South Asia (UK & USA: Routledge, 2010); (Jointly edited with S.Das) Challenges of Nation-Building in Developing Societies: Vignettes from West and South Asia (Kolkata: KP Bagchi, 2009) along with numerous book chapters and research articles.
Mr Kingshuk Chatterjee is an assistant professor at the Department of History, Calcutta University and is the Deputy Director, Pakistan and West Asia Studies of the Department. He is associated with the Insititute of Foreign Policy Studies of the Calcutta University, and looks after its West Asia programme. Chatterjee specialises in the politics of the Middle East and Political Islam in the modern world. He is the author of Ali Shariati and the Shaping of Political Islam in Iran.
