Major General (Dr) GD Bakshi
SM, VSM (Retd) served for 37 years in the Indian Army and has extensive combat experience. He participated in the 1971 Indo-Pakistan war and led Counter-Terrorist operations in Punjab, and then Kishtwar and Rajouri and Punch in J&K. He led his unit 6 J&K Rifles in major skirmishes on the LC in Kargil. He taught at the Indian Military Academy Dehradun, the Staff College Wellington and finally at the National Defense College at New Delhi from where he completed his PhD post retirement. He has had two tenures at the prestigious Military Operations Directorate during the Sri Lanka and Kargil conflicts. He is a keen student of military history and has published over 45 books.
In this paper, the author endeavours to record lessons learnt from ongoing conflicts around the globe with special reference to the Indian context. This first paper is about the Missile war between Iran and Israel in April 2024. It is timely because we may shortly witness a second missile strike by Iran on Israel in the wake of the assassination of Hainiyeh in Tehran.
