About the author
VK Verma was commissioned into the fighter stream of the IAF on 02 Jun 1968. An experienced fighter pilot, with over 3500h on fighters, mostly on Mig 21 and Mig 23 aircraft. He is a Qualified Flying Instructor and Fighter Combat Leader. He is a graduate of Defence Services Staff College and National Defence College. He commanded a Mig 23 squadron in Rajasthan, a frontline fighter base in Punjab, Air Force Station Hakimpet and Air Force Academy Hyderabad. His staff appointments include Air Branch at Command Headquarters, Air Headquarters and HQ, IDS. He initiated many path breaking programs in conduct of operations and in laying the ground work for the leap into Network Centricity. He was able to kickstart a large number of programs involving representatives of Academia, DRDO, Industry and Services on how to leverage the inherent indigenous capabilities. For his distinguished service he was awarded the Vayu Sena Medal in 1983, the Vishisht Seva Medal in 1998, and the Athi Vishist Seva Medal in 2006. He is presently the Director General (Inspection and Safety) at Air HQs.
