Ratanjit Singh had spent a number of years in conflict-ridden areas prior to starting his research on Afghanistan. With more than 8 years’ experience in Jammu and Kashmir and the Democratic Republic of Congo alone, he was able to utilise the same towards finalising his research. His previous appointment as liaison with National Media in Delhi helped him further in establishing the contacts required for the research and refining his thought process too.
